Nánzhōu (南州) is a small rural township in central Pingtung formerly known as Xizhou (溪州). The township developed around the Nanzhou Sugar Factory (南州糖廠), established in 1920 and operating until 2003. Heritage-listed warehouses (砂糖倉庫) remain on the former factory grounds. The nearby Xibei Elementary School (溪北國小), also heritage-listed, retains remnants of a Japanese colonial era shrine and war memorial on its campus.
