Yílán is a county in northeastern Taiwan bordered by New Taipei 新北 in the north and Hualien 花蓮 in the south. It is an easy day trip from Taipei 台北 thanks to the relatively new Hsuehshan Tunnel, which cuts down travel time considerably. Attractions include the hot springs town of Jiāoxī 礁溪, the night market in Luódōng 羅東, the cold springs of Sū'ào 蘇澳, and the history and black sand beaches in Tóuchéng 頭城, among other things.
