Kowloon (九龍) is the densely populated peninsula north of Hong Kong Island. Following the Second Opium War the area south of Boundary Street was ceded to Britain by the Convention of Peking in 1860. With over 2 million residents and a population density exceeding 47,000 per square kilometer, Kowloon is among the most densely populated places on Earth.
