Manzhou (滿州) - Spectral Codex

Mǎnzhōu (滿州) is a sparsely populated township on the eastern side of the Hengchun Peninsula in Pingtung, part of the historic Langqiao Eighteen Communities (瑯嶠十八社), an association that included the Tjakuvukuvulj (大龜文) further north. The area is home to both Paiwan and Hokkien communities and is known for its strong seasonal downslope winds (落山風). Gangzhi Desert (港仔大沙漠), a striking sand dune landscape on the northeastern coast, is the township’s most distinctive natural feature. The small town center retains the You family residence (尤氏古厝), a Minnan-Japanese fusion house, while the abandoned Yongjing Sisal Rope Factory (永靖瓊麻工廠) in the surrounding hills recalls the area’s former role in local industry.
