Nanzhou Xibei Elementary School Shinto Shrine (溪北國民小學神社) - Spectral Codex

A ceremonial structure once stood on the southwest side of this Japanese colonial era school campus, originally known as Keishou Elementary School (溪州尋常小學校). Although culture workers have identified it as a Shinto shrine, records indicate it was a hōanden (奉安殿), a structure purpose-built to house photos of the emperor and empress as well as the imperial rescript on education. Whatever the case, all but the pedestal was destroyed after the war, and a statue of Confucius was erected here in 1965. Despite the ambiguity, the site was award cultural heritage status in 2009.
