Shīzǐ (獅子) is the largest township in Pingtung by area, a mountainous expanse on the Hengchun Peninsula populated mainly by Paiwan people. Much of the territory was traditionally the domain of the Tjakuvukuvulj (大龜文) chiefdom, the dominant power among the Langqiao Eighteen Communities (瑯嶠十八社) of the Hengchun Peninsula, whose former seat at Neiwen retains a slate Shinto shrine (內文神社) built during the war for Takasago Volunteer soldiers.
