New Territories (新界) - Spectral Codex

New Territories (新界) comprise about 86% of Hong Kong’s land area but contain roughly half its population. Unlike Hong Kong Island and Kowloon, which were ceded in perpetuity, the New Territories were leased for 99 years beginning July 1, 1898. The expiration of this lease was the catalyst for negotiations that led to the 1997 handover of all Hong Kong to China.
