Houli

Hòulǐ (后里) is a rural area in northern Taichung, nestled between the Dajia River to the south and the Da’an River to the north. It was historically known as Neipu (內埔), renamed in 1955 to distinguish it from similarly-named towns such as Neipu in Pingtung. The decommissioned Old Mountain Line railway threads the district, leaving behind Tai’an Station, a string of derelict tunnels, and an iron bridge over the Dajia River, now part of a popular bikeway. Houli Horse Ranch, founded in 1912 as a Japanese military stud farm, and the Yuemei Sugar Factory (月眉糖廠) of 1909 are now among its busiest attractions.
