Tánzǐ (潭子) is a suburban district in the northern Taichung Basin, on the main railway line between central Taichung and Fengyuan. Its primary landmark is Zhaixing Villa (摘星山莊), an ornately carved mansion completed in 1879 by a Qing general and now regarded as one of Taiwan’s finest traditional residences. Farmland for much of its history, Tanzi industrialized around the former Taichung Export Processing Zone, now a technology park, and remains a center of furniture manufacturing.
