Originally established in 1912, this is the last of nine remaining Japanese colonial era horse ranches in Taiwan, and the only one fully devoted to military training. In the post-war period it was taken over by the ROC army for use as a breeding and training facility for traditional cavalry. In 1997 it was turned over to the private sector and the site is now managed as a tourist attraction. Numerous traces of its Japanese colonial origins can still be found on site.
