A rare example of an original Martial Law era bridge and tunnel garrison along the Old Mountain Line (舊山線) in Houli surviving into the 2010s. Previously the entire railway network was lined with sentry posts at critical junctures like the entrance to the No. 8 Railway Tunnel, immediately to the southwest of this small base. The remains of this base were likely demolished around 2024 when a new pipeline project was undertaken in this area. A blog source identifies the compound as the headquarters of Bridge and Tunnel Company 401 (橋隧401連), the Taiwan Garrison Command unit responsible for guarding bridges and tunnels across central Taiwan. The company was disbanded in 1992.
