Shéngāng (神岡) is a rural-industrial district on the northern edge of the Taichung Basin, just northwest of the urban core. It was the seat of the Pazeh Indigenous community of Anli (岸裡社), whose collaboration with Qing settlers to dig irrigation canals is regarded as the origin of farming across the surrounding plains. The families that prospered here left some of inland Taichung’s grandest Qing dynasty era residences, among them the scholarly Xiaoyun Villa (筱雲山莊) and the Shekou Lin Residence (社口林宅). Note: this district is not to be confused with Shengang in neighboring Changhua.
