Dounan

Dòunán (斗南), formerly Tālǐwù (他里霧), takes its older name from Dalivoe, a settlement of the Hoanya Plains Indigenous people. Han Chinese arrived during the Zheng dynasty era, making it one of the earliest areas developed in present-day Yunlin. The town was renamed in 1920 for its position south of Douliu, and its station on the trunk railway line established it as a transport hub for the county. Dounan Police Station Office Building, completed in 1930 and designated a city monument, has been restored as a restaurant; nearby Longhu Hall, a temple associated with a religious sect known for curing opium addiction, was destroyed by American bombers during World War 2 and slowly rebuilt over the following decades.
