Èrlún (二崙) is a township in northern Yunlin named for two small hills (崙) that once marked the landscape. The area was settled in 1701 by Liao Chaokong (廖朝孔) and his kinsmen from Zhao’an County (詔安縣) in Zhangzhou, making Erlun one of the principal strongholds of Zhao’an Hakka culture in Taiwan, though the dialect is now critically endangered as most descendants have shifted to Hokkien. Erlun Police Station, established in 1899 and rebuilt in 1926, now serves as a community museum known as Erlun Story House (二崙故事屋). Several Liao family residences with neo-Baroque flourishes survive in the surrounding villages.
