Xīluó (西螺, also known as Siluo and sometimes even Hsilo) is a historic old town on the south bank of the mighty Zhoushui River in Yunlin, Taiwan. Although it is seldom mentioned in the English language blogosphere Xiluo is one of the more interesting small towns to visit in west-central Taiwan. Yanping Old Street (延平老街) is a marvel of colonial architecture, the derelict Xiluo Theater (西螺戲院) is a must-see for all fans of vintage cinema, and the iconic red iron trusses of Xiluo Bridge (西螺大橋) is quite scenic. It isn't nearly as developed as comparable destinations but it should appeal to anyone with an interest in Taiwanese history and local culture.
