The sole surviving building from a cluster of Japanese colonial era teacher dormitories opposite Dounan Elementary School, built to official government housing standards when the school relocated to its current site in 1938. The wooden duplex housed two families and was among the last batch constructed in 1945 as wartime material shortages were at their peak. Residents in the post-war era included calligrapher Chen Yueshan (陳岳山) and painter Shen Yaochu (沈耀初). Nine other units were demolished in 2008, but this building was registered as a historic building in 2011 following advocacy from local arts and heritage groups. It was restored and reopened in 2023 as Dounan Cultural Center (斗南文薈館).
