Baihe

Báihé (白河) is a rural district in northeastern Tainan on the border with Chiayi. It is widely known for the historically significant hot springs resort town of Guānzilǐng (關子嶺), developed during the Japanese colonial period, along with roadside attractions like the Water & Fire Spring, where a gas seep creates a perpetual flame alongside flowing water. The district preserves several important temples including Huoshan Biyun Temple, established in 1798, and Daxian Temple, both designated municipal monuments. During World War 2 the area was home to the Shirakawa POW Camp, one of more than a dozen prisoner of war camps located in Taiwan at that time.
