Guanziling was one of the four great hot springs resort areas of the Japanese colonial period. Its Shinto shrine was built on a hillside above the town in 1941, now the site of Lingding Park (嶺頂公園), with the main hall where the visitors’ center is now. In 1950 it was converted for use as a small shrine to Confucius (關子嶺大成殿), which was upgraded in 1982 to the current structure on site.
