火山碧雲寺
Huoshan Biyun Temple (火山碧雲寺)

A Buddhist temple of the Rinzai (臨濟宗) lineage on the slopes of Guanziling (關子嶺). The temple traces its origins to the monk Yingxiang (應祥), who brought a Guanyin statue from Quanzhou’s Kaiyuan Temple around 1701 and eventually settled at this site. The temple was formally established in 1808 after eight local scholars, having passed the imperial examinations, funded its construction. It has been destroyed and rebuilt multiple times, notably during the Zhang Bing Rebellion (張丙事件) of 1832 and again during anti-Japanese resistance in 1895. The temple is closely linked to Dongshan Bixuan Temple (東山碧軒寺) through an annual pilgrimage procession (東山迎佛祖), designated an intangible cultural asset of Tainan.
