Anding (安定) is a rural district in Tainan known as Bakloan during the Dutch colonial era, when it was one of four main aboriginal villages near the Dutch base of Tayouan. The district retains a few remnants of the Japanese colonial period, including the Nan’an Public School Shinto Shrine, a rare example of a shrine on campus still intact today, albeit with heavy modifications from its original state. Anding was organized as a rural township of Tainan County in 1945 and upgraded to a district when the county merged with Tainan City in 2010.
