Guānmiào (關廟) is a small town in southern Tainan famous for its noodles and the large temples at the western and eastern ends of town. Shanxi Temple (山西宮), established in the early 18th century to venerate Lord Guan, the God of War, is the origins of the town’s name. The district experienced significant economic growth during the post-war era through its bamboo and rattan industries, as evidenced by the Zhongyang Theater built in 1969 during the height of the local manufacturing boom.
