Xuéjiǎ (學甲) is a coastal district in northwestern Tainan along the vanished shores of Daofeng Lagoon (倒風內海). The district is home to Xuejia Ciji Temple (學甲慈濟宮), one of the five major temples of coastal Tainan, established in a thatched cottage in 1701 and enshrining Baosheng Dadi (保生大帝). The temple’s main deity statue was brought from Baijiao Village in Zhangzhou, Fujian by Chen Yi-gui (陳一桂), a general under Koxinga.
