Shen Family Ancestral Hall

The ancestral hall of the Shen family of Sanjiancuo (三間厝), descendants of migrants from Nanjing County in Fujian who reached Baihe in the early 18th century. Researchers date its founding to around 1800 from a surviving Xiaositang (孝思堂) plaque, discounting an older claim resting on a jinshi (進士) plaque dating to 1781 that has since been stolen by thieves. Originally five bays wide with a swallowtail ridge, it took its present form when rebuilt in 1909 after an earthquake. Damage from the 921 Earthquake of 1999 led to registration as a historic building in 2003.
