仙草埔線鐵道橋台遺跡

Limestone is a necessary reagent in sugar refining, and when World War 1 cut off shipments from Japan the industry tapped deposits on Zhentoushan (枕頭山), not far from the hot springs resort town of Guanziling (關仔嶺). The quarry was reorganized under Wushulin Sugar Factory after 1945 and an aerial ropeway later replaced the hand-pushed trolleys on the mountain. Between 1948 and 1949 the Xiancaopu Line (仙草埔線) was laid from the plains to a loading yard below the quarry, later realigned in October 1962 to clear the basin of the new Baihe Reservoir (白河水庫). Quarrying ended in December 1991 and the line was dismantled soon after, leaving concrete bridge abutments in the hills of Baihe, Tainan.
