Shilin

Shìlín (士林) is a large and culturally significant district in northern Taipei. It sprawls from the banks of Keelung River (基隆河) to the volcanic slopes of Yangmingshan, including Qixingshan (七星山), the highest peak within city limits at 1,120 meters. It features numerous points of interest, most notably the National Palace Museum, which houses one of the world’s finest collections of Chinese art and historical relics; Chiang Kai-shek’s official residence, now open to public tours; Huiji Temple, perched on top of the strategic hilltop Zhishanyan (芝山岩); and Cixian Temple, an important Mazu shrine, sits at the heart of the famous Shilin Night Market.
