A lava terrace in Yangmingshan National Park (陽明山國家公園) in Shilin, Taipei, formed where lava from Zhugaoshan (竹篙山) in the Datun Volcano Group (大屯火山群) spilled northward. Japanese colonial authorities opened a cattle pasture here in 1934, and the carpet grass that covers the terrace is said to have been planted at that time. In 1952 it became Yangmingshan Ranch (陽明山牧場), where farmers from Beitou, Shilin, and Jinshan boarded their cattle for a fee, a practice that has dwindled with the mechanization of farming.

I am a web application developer, photojournalist, urban explorer, and history enthusiast passionate about the open web and documenting my experiences on this planet. This project was founded in the early 2010s and has evolved into a sort of personal Wikipedia of places that interest me (and often the photographs I’ve taken there). I’m originally from Toronto, Canada, but spend most of my time residing in Taiwan.
