Chiang Kai-shek personally commissioned this residence for Chinese intellectual and writer Lin Yutang (林語堂), who settled in Taiwan in 1966. After his death a decade later it was converted into a library and eventually designated a heritage property. Although now managed by Soochow University is it not open to the public as of 2026.
