Built in 1875 by Qing official Lin Zhenfang (林振芳), who had been promoted to Changhua sub-prefect for raising local troops against the Dai Chaochun uprising, this two-court Minnan-style residence in Shengang is the largest surviving gentry residence in inland Taichung. Listed as a third-grade monument in 1985, it has been repeatedly targeted by antiquities thieves who removed wooden window grilles over many years and, in a single August 2000 raid, a valuable late Qing dynasty era plaque and set of ancestral tablets.
