Yuànlǐ (苑裡) is an urban township in southwestern Miaoli. It is informally known as the county’s breadbasket due to its extensive rice cultivation. Originally named after Wanrie, a settlement of the Taokas group of Taiwanese Plains Indigenous people, the area historically specialized in reed weaving and the export of grass mats and hats before transitioning to its current agricultural economy. The township preserves several historic sites including Shuntian Temple and Cai Family Residence in the historic Fangli (房裡) village at the south end of the main settlement.
