Sānyì (三義) is a mountainous township in southern Miaoli County known for its woodcarving industry, Hakka cultural heritage, and historic railway infrastructure. A scenic segment of the Old Mountain Line used to run through the hills east of town but it was decommissioned in 1998 and developed for tourism. Major attractions include Shengxing Station (勝興車站) and the Longteng Broken Bridge (龍騰斷橋), which collapsed in the devastating 1935 Hsinchu-Taichung Earthquake.
