Taoyuan City

Taoyuan City (桃園市) is the formal name for all of Taoyuan, which was upgraded from county to city status in 2014. The original city is now known simply as Taoyuan District (桃園區) but in keeping with the conventions of this project it is still referred to as a “city”. Taoyuan City is a satellite of Taipei known mainly for its night markets and relatively affordable real estate. During the Japanese colonial era the Taoyuan Shinto Shrine was constructed on a hillside overlooking the city, remnants of which are well-preserved to this day.
