Guishan

Guīshān (龜山) sprawls along the borderlands of Taoyuan and New Taipei, spanning the southern expanse of Linkou Plateau (林口台地) and the northeastern suburbs of Taoyuan City. It was notable for its position along the original Qing dynasty era railway line connecting Keelung to Hsinchu, completed in 1891—though the Japanese authorities later abandoned this steep route in favor of a more gradual alignment along the Dàhàn River (大漢溪) to the south. In the post-war period Guishan became home to several military dependents’ villages, including Luguang No. 2 Village and Luguang No. 3 Village, sponsored by Soong Mei-ling and inaugurated in the mid-1960s. While most of these communities were demolished and redeveloped in the early 2000s, Xianguang No. 2 Village has been preserved as a cultural park.
