Fuxing

Fùxīng (復興), not to be confused with Fuxing in Changhua, is a large mountainous district in Taoyuan with a significant Taiwanese Indigenous population, primarily Tayal people. The area was the site of intense Japanese colonial subjugation efforts, evidenced by remnants of police garrisons such as the Yingshan Police Garrison and numerous Shinto shrines established in Indigenous communities. Jiaobanshan (Kakubanzan in Japanese) became an important colonial administrative center and later served as one of Chiang Kai-shek’s many mountain retreats in the post-war era. The district is known for its natural beauty, including Shimen Reservoir and surrounding forests, and features several suspension bridges traversing steep river valleys.
