Jiǎxiān (甲仙), formerly Jiǎxiānpǔ (甲仙埔), is a mountain township at the western terminus of the Southern Cross-Island Highway in northeastern Kaohsiung. The population is ethnically diverse, including a significant Hakka community drawn by camphor production in the early 20th century and Taivoan Indigenous people (大武壠族) who migrated into the mountains under settlement pressure. The district, widely known for its taro production, was severely impacted by Typhoon Morakot in 2009.
