A small-scale sugar factory used to operate on the banks of the river just outside the main settlement in Jiaxian. Established in 1907, it used a water wheel to drive the machinery. It struggled to operate throughout the early post-war era and eventually closed in 1963. The ruins of the factory were washed away by the floods brought on by Typhoon Morakot in 2009.
