Qiáotóu (橋頭), formerly Qiáozǎitóu (橋仔頭), is a small district in northwestern Kaohsiung best known as the site of the Qiaotou Sugar Factory (橋頭糖廠). Established in 1902, this was the first modern mechanized sugar factory in Taiwan and a landmark of the island’s early industrialization under the Japanese colonial government. The adjacent railway station, built in 1910, retains its heritage-listed Showa-era station house.
