Qiédìng (茄萣) is a small coastal district at the northwestern tip of Kaohsiung, separated from Tainan only by the Erren River (二仁溪) and more closely tied to that city in daily life. The district has a long history of fishing and salt production. The heritage-listed Jhuhu Saltworks Watchtower (竹滬鹽灘鹽警槍樓) is the last surviving salt police watchtower in Kaohsiung and the surrounding wetlands are now an important habitat for migratory black-faced spoonbills.
