Měinóng (美濃), originally written as Mínóng (瀰濃), is the most prominent Hakka settlement in southern Taiwan and one of the communities of the Liudui (六堆). The East Gate Tower (東門樓), originally established around 1755, marks the entrance to the old settlement, and the district retains several ritual paper incinerators (敬字亭), a distinctly Hakka monument type reflecting the Confucian reverence for the written word. Meinong Incinerator (瀰濃庄敬字亭), dating to 1779, is a municipal monument most exemplary of this class of heritage structure. Zhuzimen Power Plant (竹仔門發電廠), a national monument completed in 1908, is one of the oldest hydroelectric plants in Taiwan and provided both electricity and irrigation water for the surrounding farmland. The Chung Li-ho Museum (鍾理和紀念館) commemorates the Hakka novelist Chung Li-ho (鍾理和), often called the father of Taiwanese nativist literature.
