This Japanese colonial era government office was constructed sometime in the Shōwa era and, according to official sources, it became an office of the forestry department in 1942. It was turned over to the city and renovated into a restaurant and visitor center in 2001. Since 2012 it operates as Shitao Ye Memorial Museum (葉石濤文學紀念館). The building’s original identity is debated: the historian Wang Zishuo (王子碩) has argued that it was in fact the Hygiene Testing Laboratory (衛生試驗所), and that its association with the forestry office is a post-war misattribution.
