Constructed sometime between 1898 and 1906, this residence housed six successive chiefs of Tainan Prefecture (臺南廳) between 1901 and 1920. After the 1920 administrative reorganization it housed the director of home affairs (內務部長) of the new prefecture, and after the war it again housed high-ranking government officials. It was restored in 2016 and now operates as Xizhuwei Hills Cultural and Creative Park (西竹圍之丘文創園區). English renders both the chō (廳) of 1901–1920 and the shū (州) that replaced it as Tainan Prefecture; this residence belonged to the former.
