Completed in 1936 adjacent to the Tainan Confucian Temple, this is the largest and finest surviving martial arts hall in Taiwan. Built in reinforced concrete mimicking traditional Japanese shrine architecture, the two-story hall originally housed a judo dojo on one side and a kendo dojo on the other, with an archery range between it and the Confucian Temple. It replaced an earlier hall near what is now the Tang De-zhang Memorial Park (湯德章紀念公園). After the war it was repurposed as the auditorium for the adjacent Zhongyi Elementary School (忠義國小), which it remains today. Designated a municipal monument in 1998.
