Designed and funded by German Dominican priest Elmar Bohmann (貝滿神父) in 1965, this small Catholic chapel in Xinpi was built by Dachen islanders resettled at Yuhuan New Village and Makatao Indigenous sugarcane farmers from the adjacent Wanlong Farm. Its cobblestone walls, gathered from the nearby Laiyi River, and cross-shaped wall openings are an iconic sight along this stretch of Provincial Highway 185 (沿山公路). Abandoned for three decades after the collapse of the local sugar industry, the chapel was listed as a county historic building in 2016, subsequently restored, and rededicated on Easter Sunday 2017.
