Sanxing (三星) is a rural township in southwestern Yilan County located at the edge of the Lanyang Plain (蘭陽平原). Originally known as Pressinowan in the Kavalan Indigenous language, meaning “bamboo forest”, the area was historically a boundary zone between Kavalan and Tayal peoples before receiving its current name during Japanese colonial administrative reorganization in 1920. The township features remnants of the Luodong Forest Railway, which operated from the 1920s to 1979 transporting timber from Taipingshan (太平山), and is now famous for its scallion production and many leisure farms.
