Bajijing Wudi Temple (八吉境五帝廟) - Spectral Codex
Bajijing Wudi Temple (八吉境五帝廟)

A small temple opposite Koxinga Ancestral Hall (鄭成功祖廟), dedicated to the Five Manifestation Emperor (五顯大帝) and originating as a Guanyin shrine in the Ming-Zheng period. The temple contains murals by celebrated father-son painters Pan Chunyuan (潘春源) and Pan Lishui (潘麗水), painstakingly preserved during a 2013 renovation. On the inward-facing rooftop of the first courtyard are figures of four icons of Tainan history added in 2016: Yoichi Hatta (八田與一), Wang Jinhe (王金河), Tang De-zhang (湯德章), and Thomas Barclay (巴克禮). There is also an absurdly cute tiger god in a side shrine.
