One of two temples vying for the title of oldest Xuanwu temple in Taiwan. Its exact date of establishment is subject to debate but its existence by 1669 is well-documented. It is also known as the “major Shangdi temple” (大上帝廟) to distinguish it from the smaller Kaiji Lingyou Temple (開基靈祐宮). It is home to a famous plaque by Zhu Shugui (朱術桂), the Prince of Ningjing (寧靖王), written in 1669 with the inscription “majestic and numinous, resplendent spirit” (威靈赫奕).
