A small shrine dedicated to Wudu Shenjun (五毒神君), the five gods of pestilence, in back alley Tainan. These deities administer Yuhuang Dadi (玉皇大帝), the Jade Emperor, and are worshipped for their ability to cure disease. Each of the five gods is depicted stepping on a different critter: toad, snake, gecko, spider, and centipede. These figurines are not always fully visible; at times they are draped with ceremonial robes making them difficult to identify.
