Qieding Baishalun Gun Emplacement

A reinforced concrete gun emplacement standing behind Hua De Vocational High School (華德高級工業家事職業學校) in the Baishalun (白沙崙) area of Qieding, less than a kilometer inland from the coast. An elongated observation tower rises from one end of the casemate, a structure shared by none of the other positions documented along this stretch of shoreline. The interior features a tanka (短歌), or short Japanese poem, inscribed on the inner wall. A photograph of the script attracted considerable public scrutiny in September 2026, with netizens interpreting it as a jisei (辞世), or death poem, featuring allusions to life scattering like a blossom. The structure appears on Google Maps under the generic label Combat Works No. 23 (作戰工事23); nothing has been published about its construction, armament, or garrison.
