The unguarded ruins of Dingshige Fort (頂石閣砲台) can be found behind a branch of the Keelung Tri-Service General Hospital (三軍總醫院基隆分院正榮院區) near the gate to Keelung City Municipal Zhengbin Junior High School (基隆市立正濱國民中學). It was originally constructed in the late Qing dynasty era and reinforced by the Japanese, probably early into colonial rule.
The stonework suggests this might be the Qing dynasty part of the fort.
On the right hand side there is more brickwork surrounding an entrance, possibly an addition from the early period of Japanese colonial rule.
A closer look at the same entrance.
First glance inside the fort. Not much back there except bats.
A few bats hang from the ceiling near the front of the fort.
An empty chamber.
Although the site is long abandoned it is still open and accessible. Appropriate precautions should be undertaken should you wish to visit. If you access the site from hospital grounds you may also need to check in with the guard at the front gate. Beware voracious mosquitoes, stray dogs, and the many bats inhabiting the interior!
Warning: this location is abandoned, hazardous, or otherwise neglected and may be unsafe and even dangerous! Exercise appropriate precautions when visiting.
