This structure was formerly the Taiwan Pavilion at the Shanghai World Expo in 2010. Hsinchu City purchased the structure and it was reassembled here in subsequent years, opening to the public from 2013 to 2016. After it shut down it became a notorious haunt for urban explorers due to its dilapidated condition and dramatic design. A conversion into the Hsinchu Children’s Discovery Center (新竹市兒童探索館), announced in 2017, stalled until the city terminated the contract in 2022, and the building is now slated to become a science education museum instead.
