The intake station of the former Hsinchu Water Supply, a municipal waterworks planned in 1914 and completed in 1929, during the Japanese colonial era. Pumps here drew subsurface water from beside Long’en Canal (隆恩圳) and sent it uphill to a purification plant on the slopes of Shibajianshan, a system that remained in use until 1981. A museum opened in the restored pump house in 2019.
